Wednesday November 4th, Melbourne/Naarm indie punk band Dental Plan release their new EP ‘Live At The Hit Hole’, following up their debut album Raw Nerve from 2024.
Filmed and recorded in-studio by consistent collaborator Nick Manuell (who previously filmed a super 8 music video for the band’s ‘Can’t Get What You Want’ single) in Brunswick, Melbourne at the studio lovingly dubbed ‘The Hit Hole’.
No overdubs, no overthinking, just a group of mates playing live in a room – like a Melbourne version of KEXP’s famous live sessions.
Live At The Hit Hole includes two new tracks, ‘Born Wrong’, a short and sweet punk rocker, ‘No Solution’ a Dunedin sound influenced indie rock tune, a cover of Husker Du’s classic ‘Don’t Want To Know If You Are Lonely’ and a breakneck version of a live favourite ‘Raw Nerve’
Niam Hegarty, vocalist and guitarist says, “I grew up in Dunedin and we definitely lent into our Flying Nun, noisy alt-rock influences for this one. It is our first recording with Tyler playing guitar and they came to the party with this one, bringing some epic noisy riffs.
“This is a good representation of the band over the last few years. We jam together often and this is kind of like having someone in the room with us.”
Dental Plan’s debut album Raw Nerve was forged through Melbourne winters, and it shows in the ferocious riffs and frustration on tracks like “Hope Stealer” and “Hole In Me”. “Can’t Get What You Want” bring out a more melodic side, while “Garbage World” is a sing-along ode to taking the road less travelled. – Rolling Stone Australia
