UNPEOPLE: Luke Caley & Em Lodge Talk Debut Album We Are Unpeople, Harmonies & Touring

Interview: Dan Maynard

After a year of tearing up festivals and breaking boundaries, unpeople have unleashed their widely-anticipated, riff-laden debut album we are unpeople – out now on SharpTone Records.
A seamless ability to connect and conjure communal spirit, sits at the very heart of the record. Built upon massive choruses, four-part vocal harmonies and unabated heaviness, it captures a band whose ambition is matched by their belief in the power of music to unite people.

The Everblack Podcast sat down with Luke Caley and Em Lodge from UNPEOPLE to chat about their highly anticipated debut album We Are Unpeople, the band’s songwriting process, vocal harmonies, musical influences and the chemistry behind their sound and much more!

Watch/listen to the interview here:

we are unpeople has received an overwhelmingly positive response, with the band now emerging as one of the country’s most exciting new alternative acts. Praising both their identity and ambition, Rolling Stone UK highlighted their “colourful and creative aesthetic” and “huge tunes”, while Kerrang! featured them on the cover, declaring them “Britain’s best new band”.

Rock Sound also featured the band on the cover, labelling the album as “built on four-voice choruses, earworm hooks, blistering riffs and a steadfast refusal to sit still”. It’s also attracted significant praise and support from BBC Radio 1, The Independent, HMV and more, with Official Charts labelling them quite simply as “THE alternative rock band breaking the UK right now”.

The 4-piece have also had their say. “It’s so difficult to sum up the journey to this point, but we couldn’t be more proud of this album. We hope all the unpeople out there can hear and feel the time and effort we put into making these songs the best they possibly could be. we are unpeople. you are unpeople. we are all unpeople.”

Comprised of Jake Crawford, Luke Caley, Em Lodge & Richard Rayner, unpeople have earned themselves a reputation for creating music that feels equally at home on the biggest rock stages and the heaviest festival bills – having fittingly been described as the lightest band at Bloodstock, and the heaviest band at Kendal Calling – finding themselves equally at home in both settings. They’ve opened for Metallica in Vienna, shared bills with Smashing Pumpkins and Coheed & Cambria & drawn huge crowds at 2000trees.

Currently on the road with Don Broco, the band also look forward to a UK support tour with Royal Blood at the end of November. Then, January 2027 will see them ready to take things to the next level on their biggest UK headline tour to date, with most dates selling out almost the moment they went on sale.

The tour will end on January 28 culminating years of hard work in what will be a truly special night at London’s Electric Ballroom, matching the ambition of a band on the cusp of truly breaking through.
