CANE HILL: Elijah Witt Talks Musical Evolution, New Music & Australian Tour

CANE HILL have always existed in the space between crushing heaviness and raw emotional vulnerability. The New Orleans metalcore outfit have carved out a reputation for their unpredictable blend of towering riffs, haunting melodies and deeply personal storytelling, creating a sound that refuses to be confined to a single genre.

After first making their mark with 2016’s Smile and continuing through Too Far Gone (2018) and 2024’s deeply introspective A Piece Of Me I Never Let You Find, CANE HILL have continued to evolve, embracing a darker and more personal approach to their songwriting while delivering one of the most visceral live shows in modern heavy music.

Returning to Australia for the first time in a decade as part of OCEAN GROVE’s Oddworld Underground Australian Tour, CANE HILL are set to bring their explosive live show back to Australian audiences this August.

The Everblack Podcast caught up with Elijah Witt from CANE HILL ahead of their return to Australia, discussing the band’s evolution, their upcoming shows with Ocean Grove, and how their live performance has grown since their first trip down under. Elijah opens up about the emotional weight behind Cane Hill’s music, the personal shift that shaped their latest material, and why he believes songs should belong to the listener’s own interpretation. He also dives into how growing up around New Orleans’ unique culture, groove and heavy music history has influenced the band’s sound.
