Robert Trujillo talks Infectious Grooves, Surfing Down Under and Metallica

After a hiatus of five years from the global stage and a sixteen-year absence from Australia since their appearance at Soundwave Festival in 2008, Infectious Grooves is set to make a triumphant return this March/April!

Fronted by Suicidal Tendencies’ Mike Muir and guitarist Dean Pleasants, the 2024 line up of Infectious Grooves also includes founding bassist Robert Trujillo (Metallica), guitarist Dave Kushner (Velvet Revolver) and drummer Jay Weinberg, making his live debut after a decade with Slipknot.

The Everblack Podcast spoke to Robert Trujillo about the upcoming Infectious Grooves Australian tour, getting the band together again with Mike Muir, surfing down under, his musical household and famous musician neighbour’s, his son Tye joining Suicidal Tendencies, possible Metallica Australian tour and more!

Watch/listen to the interview here:

Formed in 1989 by Mike Muir and Robert Trujillo of the legendary Californian heavy hitters, Suicidal Tendencies, along with long serving ST guitarist Dean Pleasants and drummer Stephen Perkins of Janes Addiction, Infectious Grooves inject a potent mix of funk and groove into their sound which instantly captivated audiences with their cross-genre appeal. With a cheeky touch of goofy humour, they became a force to be reckoned with in the international scene, delivering 4 albums between 1991 and 2000 and forever cementing their iconic status among fans worldwide.

With musical pedigree like that, you’re guaranteed an incredible night of funk-metal mayhem when Infectious Grooves come to blitzkrieg the house.

To celebrate, IG have also announced a tour exclusive Suicidal Tendencies 6 Pack set as part of the upcoming Australian dates, where fans will be the first to see Jay hit the skins in ST mode – joined on stage by 2 current and former Suicidal Tendencies bassists –  none other than Tye Trujillo, performing iconic ST anthems alongside his Dad, Robert.
