WEIGHTLESS BREAK METALCORE CONVENTIONS WITH POP INFLUENCED, NEW SINGLE “SABOTAGE”

Sydney-based Metalcore band, Weightless, have released their latest single, “Sabotage,”. Topically, this track delves deeply into the repercussions of self-destructive tendencies, highlighting their insidious nature in eroding one’s own surroundings unnoticed. Serving as an awakening beacon, the song prominently features the poignant lyric, “Can’t change the fact the only constant is me” capturing the powerful essence of the composition.

Sabotage gracefully introduces a melodic twist to the quartet’s usual signature sound of aggressive riffs and predominantly intense vocals, placing guitarist and clean vocalist Riley Keane at the center of the arrangement. This transformative shift not only highlights the band’s remarkable versatility, but also delves into the depths of more intimate and raw lyrical themes.

“Sabotage for me is the song I feel the most connected to emotionally with the subject matter hitting very close to home. I felt an overwhelming amount of pressure whilst tracking vocals due to the song being heavily reliant on my performance mixed with the challenge of pushing to explore a vocal range outside of my comfort zone.
I believe the sincerity of my attachment to the lyrics within this song is best highlighted in the chorus with a delivery of raw emotion combined with self reflective lyrics creating a song I believe will connect and resonate deeply with listeners,” shares guitarist and clean vocalist, Riley Keane.

“Sabotage as a song taught me a lot both as a songwriter and as a person, with the song being quite the departure from the “typical” sound of Weightless; it created a lot of challenges along the way when it came to writing a song that is heavily pop influenced. The decision to take this song in such a different direction came about very naturally and has always been a style/genre of song we have wanted to explore as a band, though the writing process of sabotage taught us a lot as musicians as well as teaching us patience and that the process of creating art does take time,” Adds Brenton Rakebrandt, guitarist of the band.

Since emerging onto the scene in 2020, swiftly gaining recognition for their debut EP “Turn The Page”, released in 2021. With an electrifying take on the metalcore genre, they’ve already supported acts the likes of Ocean Sleeper and Heists, and have seen their debut EP earn them Triple J Unearthed Feature Album of the Week.

Weightless also clinched the Triple J Unearthed Feature Artist of the Week title and secured a spot in the Top 10 Up & Coming Bands by Triple J Unearthed. With chart-topping tracks, and features in the coveted Spotify playlist Homegrown and Heavy, Weightless have already proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of heavy music. Their Wall of Sound Magazine-reviewed EP received a stellar 9/10 score, cementing their status as a rising, innovative force to watch.
