SOFT PLAY Return With New Single ‘Punk’s Dead’

UK-based duo, SOFT PLAY, make their long-awaited return with new single ‘Punk’s Dead‘ – which premiered on BBC Radio 1 as Jack Saunders‘ ‘Hottest Record In The World‘.

The track is also accompanied by news of their new label partnership with BMG, as well as confirmation that theyll be joining the bill for surprise appearances at Reading and Leeds Festivals on August 26 and 27 respectively.

It follows the band’s recent homecoming to the live circuit, warming up with an intimate show at Tunbridge Wells Forum followed by their headline appearance at 2000 Trees Festival. With further dates imminent, the group are already confirmed to join The Prodigys UK Arena tour this November as main support.

After an unexpected hiatus spanning several years, Laurie Vincent and Isaac Holman announced in late 2022 that they would reignite their partnership under the SOFT PLAY moniker, teasing their return to the studio.

Instead of shying away from discourse following the decision to change their band name, Punks Dead sees the band remould the real-life criticism into a comments section Frankenstein of pure lyrical mastery. Braced by a cast of friends and fans who contribute vocals to the tracks bridge (including Robbie Williams), the playful return of serve arrives as a timely reminder of the spirit of humour, joy and community, which has always been the cornerstone of the duos identity.

Across three UK top-ten charting albums, taking root from their 2015 Mercury Prize-nominated debut, the duo (formerly known as Slaves) quickly established themselves as an influential force in the British rock landscape. Their distinctive, unapologetic approach to the genre and kinetic live performances have fortified the bands avid global fanbase, earning them widespread critical acclaim and coveted festival slots. The release of Punks Dead signifies the band’s joyous reformation, a bold clarion call to friends and fans as SOFT PLAY expands their artistic horizons into a fresh new era.
