You Me at Six + Set It Off + Between You and Me – The Tivoli Brisbane [Live Review]

In a blaze of anticipation, a sea of eager rock enthusiasts lined the streets outside the revered Tivoli venue, ready to embark on a night of musical ecstasy. As the doors swung open, the stage pulsed with limitless possibilities, setting the stage for an unforgettable concert experience. The time had come for You Me at Six to reclaim the spotlight in Brisbane, unleashing their explosive energy and taking us on an electrifying sonic journey. The Tivoli was about to bear witness to a night that would forever be etched in the memories of all fortunate enough to be present.

Kicking off the evening were Melbourne-based punk band Between You and Me. From the very first chord, it was clear that they had mastered the art of captivating an audience. Their seamless blend of infectious pop-punk hooks and heartfelt lyricism became an intoxicating elixir, enveloping the crowd in their embrace counting the crowd in multiple times to shout their catch phrase “Shit Yeah”. The venue transformed into a sanctuary of raw emotion and unbridled enthusiasm. Playing hit songs like “Dakota” and “Butterflies,” they commanded the stage with impeccable skill, engaging the crowd and leaving an indelible impression. With lead singer Jake Wilson and bass player James Karagiozis diving into the mosh pit, bridging the gap between band and fans, the energy soared to new heights. Between You and Me set the tone for the night, delivering an opening performance that was nothing short of spectacular.

Following the exhilarating set, the lights dimmed and Florida-based pop-punk band Set It Off took the stage. The charismatic powerhouses commanded attention from the moment they stepped foot into the spotlight. Lead singer Cody Carson, a ball of energy and excitement, unleashed a captivating performance that ignited the crowd. From climbing on top of the crowd, standing on top of everyone with arms wide open, singing along and bringing the crowd into the experience to leading the audience in a dance, Set It Off transformed the venue into a mesmerizing spectacle. Opening with “Wolf in sheep’s clothing” the crowd were loving it and even a nostalgic cover of Backstreet Boys‘ “Everybody,” the band kept the crowd on their toes, ensuring an unforgettable experience. “Loose Canon” by song and by nature. Closing off the set with one of their newer independent songs “Punching Bag” The crowd singing along with such intent to the lyrics “Go Fuck Yourself”. As stated by Carson, Set it off will be back soon and if you haven’t seen them before I definitely would advise to for an amazing show. Set It Off’s stage production, presence, and theatricality added an extra layer of magic to the show, leaving the audience craving more.

And then, in a thunderous explosion of sound and anticipation, You Me at Six took their rightful place on the stage. The crowd erupted in a sea of red as the drums crashed into the opening track, “Deep Cuts.” The British rock titans wasted no time in unleashing their sonic assault, led by the powerful vocals of Josh Franceschi. The chemistry among the band members was palpable as they delivered a tight-knit performance, driving the songs forward with relentless energy. With guitarists Max Helyer and Chris Miller weaving intricate melodies and the rhythm section of bassist Matt Barnes and drummer Dan Flint creating a pulsating foundation, You Me at Six commanded the stage with impeccable musicianship. The band’s showmanship and genuine interaction with the fans further deepened the bond, reminding everyone of the unifying power of music.

Playing 14 of their incredible hits, including crowd favourites like “Mixed Emotions,” You Me at Six had the audience in the palm of their hands. As they closed the main set with “No One Does It Better,” the crowd’s yearning for more echoed throughout the venue, leading to an electrifying encore. Returning to the stage, they rewarded the invested crowd with four additional songs, including the powerful “SUCKAPUNCH” and concluding the night with the enchanting “Beautiful Way.” As the music faded and the lights dimmed, it was evident that You Me at Six had left an indelible mark on the hearts and souls of all in attendance. Their powerful performance had become a shared memory, reminding everyone of the transcendent power of live music. You Me at Six had solidified their status as true powerhouses of the rock world, leaving an enduring legacy that will resonate for years to come.
