After nearly a decade away, BRUJERIA are set to make their long-awaited return to Australia this September, joining extreme metal legends CARCASS for the Putrefying Down Under Australian and New Zealand tour. For a band whose history has been shaped by controversy, dark humour, brutal music and an unmistakable borderland identity, the return comes at a particularly significant time.
Following the passing of founding frontman Juan Brujo and longtime member Pinche Peach, the future of BRUJERIA could have looked very different. Instead, the band continues to carry the torch, honouring those who came before while forging ahead with a new chapter.
The Everblack Podcast caught up with El Sangrón from BRUJERIA ahead of their long-awaited return to Australia with Carcass. El Sangrón discusses the band’s journey following the loss of Juan Brujo and Pinche Peach, keeping the BRUJERIA legacy alive, his history with the band, the current lineup, touring with Carcass, his other band Sangre, and what the future could hold for new music.

Formed in 1989, BRUJERIA emerged from the Southern California underground with a brutal fusion of grindcore and death metal, delivered with a distinctly Latino/Chicano identity. Shrouded in mystery and performing behind aliases, the band quickly became notorious for their provocative lyrics, dark humour, graphic imagery and uncompromising approach to extreme metal.
Their landmark albums Matando Güeros and Raza Odiada established BRUJERIA as one of the most distinctive and controversial acts in extreme metal, while later releases including Brujerizmo, Pocho Aztlan and Esto Es Brujeria continued to expand their cult following. Over the years, the band has featured an extraordinary cast of musicians from across the extreme metal world while maintaining their unique identity and mythology.
Following the deaths of longtime vocalist Pinche Peach in 2024 and founding frontman Juan Brujo later that year, BRUJERIA have entered a new chapter, continuing to honour the band’s legacy while taking their notorious brand of borderland brutality to audiences around the world.
