A storm is brewing in the world of Swedish Death Metal. FIMBUL WINTER, a new but battle-hardened force, will unleash their debut EP What Once Was on November 14, 2025.
The band unites Niko Kaukinen – Drums (ex-Amon Amarth founding member), Anders Biazzi – Guitar (ex-Amon Amarth founding member), Fredrik Andersson – Lead Guitar (ex-Amon Amarth), and Clint Williams – Vocals (Munitions). Together, they merge decades of experience with raw, uncompromising intensity.
The seeds of the band were planted during a spontaneous reunion performance of Amon Amarth’s 1994 demo The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter. What began as a nostalgic return to their roots quickly evolved into something much larger—a renewed mission to forge new music that embodies the cold, unyielding spirit of the early Swedish scene.
The result is What Once Was, a five-track assault steeped in the traditions of melodic death metal while blazing its own fierce path. Listeners can expect rediscovered riffs originally conceived during the formative years of Amon Amarth, woven together with entirely new compositions that are equally relentless and authentic.
“This is not a side project or a nostalgia trip,” the band states. “It’s unfinished business. Fimbul Winter is about continuing to shape the sound we helped create, with no compromises.”
With its icy ferocity and unflinching dedication to the roots of the genre, What Once Was marks both a bold beginning and a continuation of a legacy.
