Today, Australian indie-rock favourites Slowly Slowly announce their sixth studio album, Everybody Tells The Truth, set for release February 5 2027 via Nettwerk Music Group. The announcement arrives alongside new single “Parallel”, the latest preview of a record that looks across the band’s decade-long catalogue to understand what makes Slowly Slowly unmistakable.
After five albums and more than a decade together, frontman and songwriter Ben Stewart approached album six by looking back. While searching for what came next, he dug into every era of Slowly Slowly’s catalogue, pulling apart the sounds, ideas, and instincts that had always felt most true to them. The result is what Stewart describes as an almost self-titled album – “an unadulterated version of Slowly Slowly that doesn’t sound like any other band.”
Getting there meant stripping the creative process back completely. Where 2025’s Forgiving Spree came together across songwriting sessions split between Melbourne and LA and marked the first time Stewart brought collaborators into the writing process, Everybody Tells The Truth was written entirely by Stewart alone. Working from his own studio, he created hundreds of ideas, scrapped and reworked them, spending long stretches in isolation following instinct and searching for the songs that felt undeniable.
“The whole catalogue has informed where this step went,” Stewart says. “It captures the raw truth of ‘Chamomile’, the storytelling of ‘St. Leonards’, the emotional impact and revelation of ‘Race Car Blues’, the playfulness of ‘Daisy Chain’, and the explosive precision of ‘Forgiving Spree’.
“Every song on the record was written in solitude with a guitar – things were fleshed out from there. At the same time, it was the first time I’d zoomed out with a global perspective. My own life bled into that as well – the shifting circumstances within my life felt like I was standing in quicksand, and then you’re watching the world sink at the same time on a big scale.
“The whole concept of truth is baked into these songs, because that’s what saves us in the end. Being true to ourselves is the only beacon that we can aim for.”
That search for something unmistakably their own became inseparable from the album’s central idea. Across Everybody Tells The Truth, Stewart explores truth as both an unavoidable force and an essential anchor, as the turbulence of his own life began to collide with the chaos of the wider world. These are songs about what remains when the façades fall away – the uncomfortable things we admit to ourselves, the stories we tell to get through them, and what happens when there is nowhere left to hide.
Moving freely between huge singalong moments, playful left turns, and the kind of unfiltered honesty that has always been at the heart of Slowly Slowly, Everybody Tells The Truth doesn’t sit still for long. Guitar-driven and hook-heavy, it’s packed with Stewart’s knack for turning deeply personal observations into something you can shout back from the front row.
Following the album’s first introduction with “Sacrosaint”, new single “Parallel” offers perhaps the most playful glimpse yet into where Everybody Tells The Truth goes. Described by Stewart as “probably the most tongue-in-cheek song on the record”, the track explores dissociation and memory gaps through a collision of early-2000s rock, pop-punk energy, and a near Jackson 5-esque groove – all driven by the band’s instinct for a ridiculously catchy melody.
“Parallel” was road-tested live during Slowly Slowly’s 2025 regional Australian tour, long before the band entered the studio to record it. The early crowd reaction made its place on the final album an easy decision.
“It’s about dissociation – a montage of different times in my life where I’ve switched off and not been present,” Stewart says. “I’ve always had a very weak ability to recall memories over my life, and I think I came to the realisation I was mentally heading elsewhere during formative years, so they didn’t make their way into the filing cabinets of my brain. It’s a lighthearted dig at dissociation and how memory obscures things like the truth.”
After more than a decade of finetuning what the band could become, Everybody Tells The Truth is Slowly Slowly at their most instinctive, unguarded, ambitious, and unmistakably themselves yet.
