Born out of a very real bed of experiences, Adelaide’s DOWN AND OUT present their new single ‘BURIED ALIVE’ – an energetic expression of pop-punk that adds more fuel to the Adelaide band’s charged brand of momentum. The latest track from the band arrives as Down And Out prepare to hit the road for shows this October and November, and also marks the bands first ever release on UNFD.
On the signing with UNFD, Frontman Luke Ganeo comments on his excitement about the new partnership. “Down And Out has just been the 5 of us since we began and we’ve done some incredible work but we felt as though we were hitting a natural ceiling with what we could achieve without bringing anybody into our team. UNFD has given us the opportunity to expand our horizons and broaden our reach both in terms of touring opportunities as well as creative. They have a bunch of sick bands like Thornhill and AVOID that we love and believe are the next generation in alternative music, so to be able to be on a label with those guys tells us that we’re doing something right. We are crazy excited to see what this next chapter holds for us and hope we can make the most of this amazing opportunity.”
‘Buried Alive’ was written from the perspective of Ganeo and his history of insomnia. Having dealt with the condition since a young age, navigating it as an adult whose life is built around irregular sleep activity as it is (including touring), has presented a new set of hurdles to overcome.
As he describes, “Touring can have pretty brutal and demanding sleep schedules and you need to be awake or asleep at very specific times or you’ll quickly become very sleep deprived and ruin yourself. So that obviously makes it harder when my body hates going to sleep. But at least we managed to get this sick song out of such an annoying thing!” LUKE GANEO, DOWN AND OUT
The track itself powers through, the blistering chemistry of the band leading from the front. During their time together, Down And Out have become one of Adelaide’s most formidable new names in alternative/punk music. With sounds that fit the similar vein to groups like Stand Atlantic, The Story So Far and more, the band has defined themselves by a pure love for chaotic sounds and influences.
‘Buried Alive’ is the perfect addition to a catalogue of music that is continuing to grow in strength. Released alongside the track are its official visuals, captured by Josh McCawley (@lethalwithalens) in Adelaide.
“We always like to have the music video be related to the subject matter of the song and this one sort of wrote itself! Shots of me tossing and turning while I struggle to fall asleep (no acting required), shots of me being completely sleep deprived and braindead at a social event (no acting required). “This will be our one and only headline tour of Australia in 2026 and we really wanted to step up the live show a notch. Obviously we’re constrained by what some venues will let us do but we want to make our live shows as overstimulating as possible! We’ve been working hard to incorporate elements of local punk shows along with raves, coordinating lighting and background visuals when possible.
Basically, we just want our live shows to be an event and an experience, something worth leaving the house for, and something you’ll be talking about for as long as possible! I hate boring things that are half baked. We love coming up with crazy ideas, fully committing to them and seeing how far we can push them.” DOWN AND OUT
