Having announced their new album Concrete Cowboy last month, The Buoys are back with another taste of the record, unveiling their new single ‘Alone In Vegas’.
A reflection of the band’s softer side, ‘Alone In Vegas’ showcases the vulnerability that has become synonymous with The Buoys over the years. Inspired by the 1985 cult classic Desert Hearts, the track offers a warm and joyful escape while still delivering the emotional impact of the band’s gut-punching rock.
Speaking about the single, the band explain:
“‘Alone In Vegas’ is kind of like a sequel to Desert Hearts (1985), which ends without you knowing if the two lead characters, Cay and Vivian, have a happily ever after. ‘Alone In Vegas’ imagines that Cay and Vivian run into each other in the future in Vegas before getting married and moving to New York together.”
Crafted from years of demos, lyrical musings, guitar progressions and deep personal reflections, Concrete Cowboy is produced by Chris Collins, with co-writes from Alistair Hayes, Fletcher Matthews, Konstantin Kerstin and Dylan Ollivierre.
The album draws from an eclectic range of sonic influences, including Adrianne Lenker, The 1975, HAIM and The Beths, while its lyrical inspiration comes from 80s cult films, Roman poetry, personal dream sequences and much more.
As one of Australia’s most beloved live bands, The Buoys will take Concrete Cowboy on the road throughout October, performing across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart.
The Concrete Cowboy Album Tour will be followed by a major support slot for The Buoys, who will join Foo Fighters for their Newcastle headline show at McDonald Jones Stadium on November 12.
Since forming, The Buoys have carved out a distinct place in Australia’s music scene, releasing a string of standout singles and EPs before delivering their debut album, Lustre, in 2024. Exploring themes of empowerment, resilience and the complexities of modern relationships, the album was met with critical acclaim, debuting at #7 on the Australian ARIA Album Chart. It was also named triple j’s Featured Album in July and later earned a nomination for Australian Album of the Year.
With ‘Alone In Vegas’, The Buoys continue to build anticipation for what promises to be their proudest project yet in Concrete Cowboy.
