After triumphantly casting off the shackles of claustrophobic dissonance on 2020’s lauded Stare Into Death and Be Still, New Zealand unorthodox death metal legends ULCERATE push further into uncharted territory with their mind-bending seventh album Cutting the Throat of God. Embracing the power of their more melodic instincts, the record emerges as a self-contained universe — a refined yet visceral collision of death and black metal where dizzying experimentation meets undeniable, hook-laden intensity.
To complete the touring cycle for Cutting the Throat of God, ULCERATE will undertake a run of Australasian headlining dates in 2026, including their return to Australia this May alongside The Amenta.
The Everblack Podcast sat down with Jamie Saint Merat of ULCERATE to discuss the band’s long-awaited return, the closing chapter of the Cutting the Throat of God era, and what lies ahead. He dives into their evolving songwriting process, the absence of pressure to outdo past releases, and the challenges of sustaining a band from New Zealand, while also revealing that ULCERATE will soon step back from live performances to focus on writing their next album.

For Australia, one of metal’s most uncategorisable acts, THE AMENTA have been synthesising the ugliest aspects of death, black, and noise into a unique maelstrom for over 25 years. Well known across the world for their intense live shows, THE AMENTA combine speed, anger, and weird sound with smoke and strobes to create a brutal, overwhelming experience.
And for New Zealand are the utterly deadly VICISSITUDE, a miasmic black/death swarming mass in centering on death, decomposition and cannibalism, they purvey a sonic hellfire of murky chaos and morbid satisfaction.
