WEREWOLVES Unleash ‘Fools Of The Trade’

By now, everyone knows Australia’s WEREWOLVES and their insane mission of releasing ten death metal albums in ten years. 2025 puts WEREWOLVES at album six, ‘The Ugliest Of All’, an increasingly unlistenable barrage of truly hideous music due out September 19th. It will be the band’s triumphant first album on BACK ON BLACK after this year’s earlier box set release ‘Encoffined’.

“Why did we call the album ‘The Ugliest Of All’?” Sam asks himself, seeing as though there’s no-one actually asking questions for this press-release. “On the one hand, we are turning into a fearsomely hideous old-man band. We’re all grey, I’ve got a gut, it’s like if The Hills Had Amps. Also, I read an interview with Malevolent Creation where Phil Fasciana was bragging about how they were the ugliest band alive, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. Hi-top sneakers are cool. Denim shorts are cool.”

‘The Ugliest Of All’ is a devastating album with zero let-up or mercy, a thoroughly unenjoyable assault of horrific battering that will bring no pleasure to the listener whatsoever. Previous albums had catchiness and levity, but this one is dark, vicious, hateful. ‘Fools Of The Trade’ opens with anger at the rest of the metal scene, before segueing into ‘I Want To Be Offended’, a catchy middle-aged attempt at whining like millennials. ‘Skullbattering’ is a stomping Angelcorpse-tinged ode to mass suicide. ‘Logorrhea’ continues the WEREWOLVES tradition of ripping into their own fans, and title track ‘The Ugliest Of All’ closes the album with a fearsome chorus, stupendous velocity, and dynamite fretboard dexterity.

Mixing and Mastering was done as always by Joe Haley (PSYCROPTIC). The artwork was done by Mitchell Nolte, the beleaguered artist of the previous albums, who has an unfathomable well of horror in his soul that he draws upon every time he’s commissioned to another WEREWOLVES cover. We dare you to study the album artwork closely. ‘The Ugliest Of All’ is set for release September 19th, available worldwide, streaming on everything.
