Finally, after 35 years of despair, the England’s most disconsolate export, pioneers and kings of doom metal MY DYING BRIDE, make their very first appearances in Australia with two exclusive shows this September.
Well known for haunting atmospheres and sorrowful tones whilst balancing uniquely heavy desolate riffs with melancholic melodies, MY DYING BRIDE redefined musical misery with their earlier albums Turn Loose the Swans (1993), The Angel and the Dark River (1995) and Like Gods of the Sun (1996). A consistent flow of exceptionally somber albums and EP’s have followed with highlights including The Dreadful Hours (2001), A Map of All Our Failures (2012), and today they continue their endless suffering like no other band of this ilk can.
Featuring Mikko Kotamaki from “Swallow The Sun” as special guest vocalist, this once in a lifetime opportunity is not to be missed!
The Everblack Podcast spoke to Andrew Craighan from My Dying Bride about the band’s long-awaited debut Australian tour, joined by special guest vocalist Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun). Andrew discusses the excitement of finally bringing their legendary doom metal to fans down under, how Mikko stepped into the role with ease, the balance of old classics and new tracks like The Apocalyptist in their live set, and what it’s like playing truly “live” without backing tracks. He also talks about their influences, legacy in the doom family tree, and teases new material currently in the works.

Compounding the despair are Melbourne doomsters MAMMON’S THRONE with their sonic alchemy of all things dark and heavy. Haunting funeral doom melodies meet crushing sludge and death grooves before taking flight in searing blackened crescendos whilst a growling bass lurks beneath, and furious drumming assault steers the plight. The band is adept at captivating the audience as they conjure up a palpable atmosphere, with each song taking on a theatrical, narrative quality.
