US Technical Death Metal monsters Ominous Ruin have recently released second album “Requiem” via Willowtip Records.
The Everblack Podcast sat down with Alex Bacey from Ominous Ruin to talk about their latest album ‘Requiem‘, creation of the record and working with new vocalist Crystal Rose, thoughts on the current tech death scene, future of the band and more.
Watch/listen to the interview here:
Formed in 2010 in San Francisco’s iconic Bay Area, Ominous Ruin aimed to fuse death metal’s raw brutality with melodic depth. Founded by guitarist Alex Bacey, bassist Mitch Yoesle, and initial vocalist Adam Rosado, the band hit its stride with drummer Harley Blandford’s technical prowess and guitarist Joel Guernsey’s dark, intricate riffs. After parting with Rosado, they found their edge in 2023 with Crystal Rose, a fierce vocal phenom whose guttural growls and searing screams redefined their sound on their soon to be released album, Requiem.
Ominous Ruin blends technicality and brutality with catchy, melodic hooks; think mind melting riffs, groovy drums, mesmerising bass, and chaotic, unique vocals. Their lyrics dive into internal/external demise, self destruction, multiverse theories, and misanthropy, paired with striking visual concepts. Requiem marks a shift from their early straightforward aggression, weaving in melodic and atmospheric chaos influenced by Necrophagist, Behemoth, and more. Now crafting their next release, the band hints at symphonic twists atop their signature heaviness. With Crystal leading the charge, Ominous Ruin are a band pushing extreme music’s limits
