Brisbane’s rising progressive metalcore act Aeon Nexus will release their fourth single “The Choice” on October 11th, 2024 along with a captivating music video. The video is premiering on Everblack Media through an exclusive pre-release stream.
Directed, written and produced by Tristan Solar-Young of TSY Productions, the music video for “The Choice” was selected as one of only four finalists in the Music Video category of Sony’s Catchlight Film Festival 2024.
The music video tells the tale of a princess trapped in a gilded cage who wields the illusion of power over her subjects. Uninspired and believing herself destined to lead a life of submission, she is suddenly transported into a mysterious lair where she stumbles upon an ancient spellbook and transforms into an all-powerful witch.
The video makes social commentary on how powerful women are portrayed in the media we consume from childhood right through to adulthood, namely that women with power and agency to make their own decisions and make change are often villainised in patriarchal social structures. The video subverts the stereotypical female character tropes in fairytales – the princess and the wicked witch – to illustrate that only when women dare to break free of these structures and shed the expectations of constricting societal roles, can they embrace and step into their true power.
This echoes the sentiments expressed in the track itself, which details a very personal journey from victim to victor after experiencing a nervous breakdown and rejection and betrayal by those who would willfully misjudge us. Stepping into one’s true power necessitates facing the person you are, with all your faults, and rising above those who would tear you down.
In the short time since they formed in late 2023, Aeon Nexus have begun making waves in the Brisbane metal scene. The successful release of their debut single “Twin Hurricanes” in May 2024 spurred a slew of tour shows across Queensland and interstate, supporting prominent Australian heavy acts such as Orpheus Omega and Hammers. Most recently, the quartet’s ast-growing reputation for captivating yet brutal live experiences earned them a coveted local support slot for US metalcore pioneers Bleeding Through’s September 2024 Australian tour.
“The Choice” will be the final single to drop ahead of the release of the quartet’s full debut EP “Positive Disintegration” on October 18th, 2024. An exclusive run of 12” vinyls will be released through Woolloongabba-based label Trafalgar Street Records.
Aeon Nexus will also be celebrating the release of “Positive Disintegration” with a launch show on 9th November for Carnival Sins, Red Castle Entertainment’s follow-up wrestling extravaganza at Mansfield Tavern.
